Home Away From Home
This program is available to all women and their families. Its proactive and plays a vital role in helping women connect with their community. The aim of this program is to help reduce the risk of loneliness and isolation.
Women in Hedland face the challenges women face anywhere but distance, isolation, the harshness of the climate and the work of the town intensify these. At a time of crisis or difficulty, this strong network and support plays a vital role in ensuring positive outcomes. The program includes;
- Cuppa and a chat. Staff are available at any time to sit down and provide support in the way of a listening ear, friendship or to provide information.
- Monthly morning tea to connect with others and to learn more about the local community
- What Women Do events - our sun downers for 18+. These are social events running every 2 months with a different theme for laughter, fun and connection
- Drop in service. Our centre is open for rest or respite and you are able to access great coffee or tea facilities, cold water, fresh fruit or a shower and freshen up if needed. Our centre is also the ideal space for mum's to feed, change or weigh bub or retreat to a quiet space.
It's been very rewarding to see women make friends, engage with their community and find employment through the connections they make at the Centre and this program is what makes the Hedland Well Women's Centre a unique and special organisation.
The Home Away From Home program has run at the Centre for almost 10 years and is part of our BHP Community Health Partnership.
